Fertility & Pregnancy
A cornerstone of Traditional Chinese Medicine’s approach to fertility and pregnancy treatment is summed up in the saying “Cultivate the soil first before you plant the seed”. Our ideal is to optimise the health of both partners before conception to create the healthiest sperm and egg and to maximise the constitutional health of the baby.
Our treatment for the female partner focuses on regulating the menstrual cycle and improving overall health to ensure that sleep is of a high quality and that digestion is good to create an overall sense of wellbeing. We achieve this by a combination of acupuncture and herbal medicine in addition to dietary, exercise and lifestyle advice.
Our treatment for the male partner focuses on enhancing the density, motility and vitality of the sperm as well as improving overall general health and sense of wellbeing.
Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture can dramatically increase fertility by treating stress which has been shown to significantly decrease fertility for both men and women. Trying to conceive can be very stressful for some couples and we find that the process of being actively involved in the treatment plan can deliver a greater sense of control.
In our experience fertility problems associated with hormonal imbalances, immune disorders, irregular menstruation, amenorrhoea and age related issues all respond well to treatment with acupuncture and herbal medicine.
Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture also increase the chances of becoming pregnant for those undergoing in-vitro fertilisation (IVF). We find that our treatment also helps lessen the stresses involved.
Acupuncture treatment during pregnancy boosts the woman’s immune system, decreases the chances of miscarriage and helps with problems that may occur such as morning sickness, back pain, heartburn, haemorrhoids etc. Acupuncture also increases blood flow to the uterus to help nourish the baby as well as making the pregnancy more comfortable for the woman.
